This is the Pilgrimsleden Göta River's last stage (or first if you go south), with a stretch from Trollhättan's church to the Dalbo Bridge in Vänersborg. A nice stretch close to water, via urban areas (close to good accommodation, good food and things to do) and with a breath of forest groves and exciting history - many times illustrated with QR codes. Between Trollhättan and Vänersborg also runs a long and straight cycle path that seems long and straight enough to be good for contemplation and your inner pilgrimage before you touch shopping centers and all the possibilities of modern times.

The Kärlekstigen road passes Naglum's church ruins as well as Karl's Grave - an almost 4 kilometer long canal that was built for ships could bypass the falls at Vargön along the Göta Älv River. When you finally reach Vänersborg via it, you as a pilgrim can pat yourself on the back, air out your hiking boots and have a coffee by Sweden's largest lake Vänern. To the north you will find the Dalsland pilgrimage trail. Tip is to then get to Upperud 9:9 and start your pilgrimage from here, as the route is newly marked and nice through the Mellerud forests. The industrious one makes his way towards Norway all the way to Trondheim and Nidaros Cathedral. But feel free to start with Trollhättan-Vänersborg.

Welcome to the route Kärleksstigen.

Surface: Forest path, asphalt, dirt road.

Time: 3-5 hours excluding breaks.

Don't miss: "Karl's grave".

Get here: Västtågen to Trollhättan travel center, go to Trollhättan railway bridge.

About Difficulty Grading

The grading of the trails is based on a common national standard. If you want to read more about this, visit the National Framework for Hiking Trails.

Even and firm ground: The terrain is generally flat. The hike requires no need to use your hands for support. No obstacles. Bridges are always present when crossing waterways.

Uneven and/or soft ground: Some changes in elevation. Certain sections may require hand support to maintain balance. There may be obstacles such as low stiles and short stairs. Minor obstacles like stones and roots. Boardwalks are present.

Loose or slippery ground combined with steep sections: Technical parts require hand support. There may be obstacles such as high stiles and longer stairs. Frequent sections with stones and/or roots. Boardwalks with deeper surrounding water.

Note: One or more of these features may be present along the trail section.
